Nandini stood frozen, her body trembling as Manik's slap reverberated through the room. The sting burned deep into her cheek, and the force of the blow nearly sent her sprawling to the floor. She tried to steady herself, blinking through the tears that blurred her vision. Her heart pounded, a wild rhythm of panic and disbelief. The pain wasn't just from the physical slap; it was from the betrayal, the harsh words, and the venom in his voice.
"Manik," she gasped, barely able to find her voice. "Please, you have to believe me. I didn't do anything. You have to trust me!"
Manik's face was a storm of rage, his eyes dark and unforgiving. He didn't hesitate. He raised his hand and struck her again. Harder. "Shut up!" he spat, each word dripping with fury. "You think I'd trust you after everything? After you sent those goons to kill my sister? You think I'm stupid, Nandini? You think a few tears will save you now?"
Her face throbbed, her cheeks now burning red from the repeated slaps. Nandini clutched her stomach protectively, feeling her world crumble around her. She could barely stand as she looked into his eyes, searching for any trace of the man who once loved her. But he was gone.
"Please... Manik..." she whimpered. "I didn't send anyone. I swear on everything, I didn't. They're lying, framing me! I'd never hurt your family."
But Manik was beyond reason. His lip curled in disgust as he advanced on her. "Trust? You dare talk to me about trust? You don't even know what it means! All you care about is money! You're nothing but a gold digger, a lying manipulator who will do anything for a few pieces of silver. You've fooled us all, but not anymore. This ends now."
She turned to Abhimanyu, her heart aching with desperation. Surely, he would listen. He had always been kind to her, always believed in fairness. "Abhimanyu, please... You know me. You know I'd never hurt anyone. I don't even know those people! They're lying, I swear it!"
Abhimanyu's gaze was cold, almost indifferent, as he stepped forward. "Don't touch me," he said, slapping her so hard that she staggered back. "You're disgusting, Nandini. For money, you tried to have Mukti killed. Do you even understand what you've done? You tried to take someone's life! You've destroyed every bit of trust I ever had in you. And love? Don't even speak the word. You know nothing about it. You're a whore, Nandini, willing to do anything for personal gain. I should've known from the beginning. But now, your game is up. We all see you for what you really are."
Her breath caught in her throat. The words hit her harder than the slap. She had loved them all, cared for them, and this was what they believed? This was what they thought of her? Tears flowed freely down her face, but she knew it didn't matter. They wouldn't believe her no matter what she said. The truth, her truth, was drowned out by the lies that had already poisoned their minds.
She turned to Mukti, her voice barely a whisper. "Mukti... please. You know me. You know I would never do something like this. I could never hurt you."
Mukti's face was a mask of disgust and fury. "You think I'm going to believe a word you say after what you've done? Don't you have any shame? You sent people to kill me, Nandini! You tried to have me murdered, and now you're standing here like nothing happened? You're sick. Get out of my sight."
Nandini recoiled, her heart shattering. Every plea, every attempt to explain was met with anger, with hatred. No one was listening. Her voice was drowned out by their accusations, each one more painful than the last.
Cabir's voice cut through the air. "For money, Nandini? You tried to kill Mukti for money? I never thought you could sink this low. I trusted you. We all did. But you betrayed us all."
Navya stood beside him, shaking her head in disbelief. "You're not the person I thought you were. How could you? You've shown your true colors now. You're nothing but a manipulative, greedy bitch. I'm disgusted that I ever called you a friend."
Before Nandini could respond, Aliya stormed toward her, her face twisted in rage. Without warning, she slapped Nandini, the sound echoing through the room like a gunshot. "That's for Mukti. For everything you've done. You're lucky I don't do worse. You're a monster, Nandini. How could you even think of hurting her?"
Each word, each slap, each accusation was a dagger to Nandini's heart. She had never felt so alone, so broken. And yet, she knew she hadn't done any of the things they were accusing her of. But how could she convince them when they were so blinded by anger?
She looked toward Dhruv, hoping he might be the one to listen. "Please, Dhruv... You know I'm not capable of this. You know me better than that."
But Dhruv shook his head, his voice filled with disappointment. "I thought I did. But now I see who you really are. And it makes me sick."
The final blow came from her father, Raman, who stood at the back of the room, his face lined with anger and shame. "I am ashamed to call you my daughter," he said, his voice cold and hard. "You've crossed every line, Nandini. First, your reputation with boys, and now this? You've become a disgrace. You are no longer welcome in my house. Get out of my life."
Her mother, Ishita, spoke next, her voice cracking with both sorrow and disbelief. "I raised you to be better than this. What did I do wrong? What part of your upbringing made you capable of something so evil? Trying to kill your brother's wife... I don't even recognize you anymore, Nandini."
Each word was like a knife twisting deeper into Nandini's heart. These were the people she had loved, trusted, and sacrificed for, and yet, in this moment, none of that mattered. She was nothing to them but a villain.
Manik grabbed her by the wrist again, dragging her roughly toward the door. "I told you not to hurt my family, and yet here we are," he growled. "You've betrayed us all, Nandini. And now you'll pay for it. I don't ever want to see your face again. If you come back, you'll see the worst side of me. I'll make you regret every second you spent in my life."
"Please, Manik," she sobbed, barely able to breathe from the pain and fear. "I'm pregnant. Where will I go? I have nowhere."
Manik's eyes narrowed in disgust. "You really think I'd fall for that? You're lying. You'll say anything to stay here, but I don't care. I don't care if you're pregnant. I don't care where you go or what happens to you. Just get out. You're nothing to me now."
The door slammed shut in her face, the final blow in a day filled with them. Nandini stood in the silence, her heart shattered, her body aching from the physical and emotional abuse. She had never felt so alone. No one had believed her. No one had stood by her.
But as the tears dried on her cheeks, something inside her shifted. She realized that no one was coming to save her. No one would fight for her. She had to do it herself. She had always been there for them—each and every one of them—when they needed her. Now, she had to be there for herself.
She would rise. She would find the strength she didn't know she had. The warrior inside her had been buried, but now she would find it. She would fight back. She would make herself strong. So strong that no one would ever hurt her again.
As Nandini walked away from the house that had once been her home, she vowed that the next time they saw her, they wouldn't recognize her. She would become someone they could never break. She hopes she never sees them in this lifetime ever again.
